Our ethos

Our approach to Judaism is in the British progressive tradition – we are open minded and thoughtful, rooted in our history but mindful of the times in which we live. We are fortunate to enjoy the guidance of our rabbi, a progressive minded leader and educator.

Ethos

Our community ethos is one of self-help and inclusivity. We encourage everyone to take part in synagogue life, whether through social events, services, learning, volunteering or mutual support for those ill or bereaved.

Our synagogue is a house of study, prayer and meeting

  • Study: classes, one-to-one learning, lectures and festival activities
  • Prayer: Shabbat, festivals and home celebrations
  • Meeting: social events, care and support within the community

Inclusivity and diversity

Everyone is welcome:

  • Jews of all backgrounds
  • Anyone seeking to reconnect with Judaism
  • People considering conversion (we have an active programme of learning and support)
  • Couples and families from different heritages
  • LGBTQ+ members (we gladly officiate same sex weddings)

We also offer Introduction to Judaism and Hebrew courses.

Care and support

  • We visit the sick, comfort the bereaved and contribute to charities that feed the homeless
  • We provide a seniors’ social centre, tea parties, knit, natter and stitch sessions and more

Interfaith relations

We are a founding partner of the Bromley Three Faiths Forum and active in the Council of Christians and Jews. Several of our members sit on their local Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE). We also participate in the Bexley Interfaith Group.

Progressive Judaism

In January 2026 the UK Jewish Liberal and Reform movements united to form The Movement for Progressive Judaism of which we are proud to be a member.
