The Synagogue’s newly formed Social Group presented its first fund-raising event on the evening of 15 June and it was a sell-out.

The trio of pianist Roland Perrin, his singer wife Rachel (Sutton) and clarinettist Mark Crooks presented an evening of “Klez-Jazz”, combining traditional Klezmer music played brilliantly on the piano and clarinet with jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, sung equally brilliantly by Rachel, with Mark switching to the tenor sax.

Audience members brought their own drinks, but a variety of nibbles were provided and served by members of the Social Group.

Roland and Rachel are members of the synagogue and have a daughter in the Gan, so who knows what other hidden talents there are among the membership waiting to be drawn out. We hope the event will be only the first of many such.
