Sue Blackie

How do you like to be known?
Sue - I feel that I have to stand up straight when I’m called Suzanne. I usually call myself Suzanne when first introduced to people, otherwise new people tend to lengthen Sue to Susan, which I really dislike. I think I’m showing my neurosis now!

Where do you live?
Eltham

What are your interests and hobbies?
Theatre, films, reading, country walks, travel. My most favourite is being a grandmother, as we look after our two little grandsons one day each week now. A whole world of new (and old) games and stories is opening out. I’ve also recently become involved in running a choir, the Dartford Township Choir. We sing mostly African and World Music and recently joined with Blackheath Choir and had a really great concert at Blackheath Halls. I’ll keep you posted of future concerts; they are really lively and inspiring - if you like African music!

What is the nature of your current or previous employment?
I’m a psychotherapist. I took early retirement from my NHS post last year and now work in private practice only.

Are there any skills or interests you would be interested in participating in with other members?
I have joined Rae Michaelis’s study group, where everyone has been very tolerant of my ignorance. There are many other activities at the Shul that I hope to join in with in the future; it does always seem that there is too little time (who said that one is busier than ever, once retired? They were right). I’ve been especially cross that the Rabbi’s story telling group is always on a Thursday evening - an evening when I work late. Maybe there could be a sort of rolling programme, which takes in other nights too?

Who are your family members?
I’m married to Ian. We have three children between us. My son is Andrew, Ian’s children are Katherine (the mother of our grandchildren) and Christopher.

Is there any other information you would like to share with members?
Only that I have found everyone so welcoming and friendly since joining Bromley shul, about four years ago.
