Rhona Green

I live in Crystal Palace with my husband, Steve Woosnam-Savage, and our two girls, Leah (nearly 7) and Hannah (4).

I work four days a week as a creative art worker (which is a bit like being a graphic designer) and Steve is a book designer (which is a bit like being a graphic designer).

When I was growing up in Ruislip we were never members of a shul and our family life was what I call secular British Jewish. So joining the Synagogue at Bromley has felt like walking into a bit of an alien world at times. But I wanted my kids to understand they are Jewish and in South London the best way to do this is to join a shul.

My fears have been put aside, as everyone has been more than welcoming and the classes and activities available are wonderful. Leah attends the lively Cheder while Hannah and I go to the play group, which we both enjoy, her for the playing and me for the chatting and support from the other Mums. I also took the opportunity to join the GCSE Jewish studies classes for a while, which were enlightening. And the children look forward to the family services (no dragging needed). I never expected to get so much from joining.
