Recent GCSE Jewish Studies success for six members
Friday, 26 September from 10.30 at the Shul. Prizes, with proceeds to Macmillan
Discussion: Wednesday 7 May from 8pm
Services are held on Shabbat and for all festivals. Most are led by our minister, Rabbi Tony Hammond, using the standard Reform liturgy. However, there are occasional "experimental" services, mainly on Friday nights, when the format differs, and there is a great deal of opportunity for participation by lay members, many of whom also lead services when the Rabbi is absent.
Saturday morning services are at 10.30 am and last for between an hour and a half and two hours (except for the family services - see below) and Friday night services start at 6.30, 7.30 or 8.00 depending on the week, so please consult Highlight or ring the office if you are planning to attend.
Family services, which are held regularly through the year, are normal Shabbat services but with a difference. They are shorter (1 hour) with lots of participation, less formality, storytelling rather than a haftarah, songs and no sermon. There are sweets for the kids and small gifts for those with birthdays. Toys are available for the very young, and there is a bring-and-share cake kiddush after the service. People of all ages enjoy the atmosphere and families with children can relax and participate fully. There is no need to let us know in advance; just come along (you can obtain the dates from Highlight and e-light, or ask the office).
